I'm Matt. I build Furrow, and I garden the beds I write about.
Two 4x8 raised beds, two feet apart, in a mild coastal climate. The kind of place where palms grow and hard frost is rare. There's a 10x10 lean-to greenhouse going up over them. In any given season the beds hold tomatoes (Cherokee Purple is the one I keep coming back to), peppers, onions, cilantro, parsley, zucchini, potatoes, cucumbers, and cosmos and zinnias around the edges for the pollinators.
That's the whole test bed. It isn't a trial farm and I don't pretend otherwise. But everything in the guides has been through it.
Furrow is a gardening companion for iPhone. It works out your USDA hardiness zone from your location, then tells you what to plant and when, for over 550 plants, anywhere in the world. It also identifies plants from a photo, tracks what's in your beds, and recommends fertilizer by growth stage. No account, no tracking, no ads.
I built it on my own and I still maintain it on my own.
Guides on this site contain Amazon affiliate links, and a purchase through one earns a small commission at no extra cost to you. That relationship is disclosed at the top of every page that has one, before the first link.
What it doesn't change is what gets recommended. Amazon pays roughly the same low single-digit percentage across the whole garden category, so there's nothing to game by steering you toward one product over another. Products get written up because they did the job in my beds. Where something has a real drawback, the guide says so. Fish emulsion smells. The FoxFarm trio includes a bottle you may not need.
I don't publish star ratings or review counts, and I don't write up anything I haven't used.
